Thomas Rhett's third studio album, Life Changes, is due out on Sept. 8. The record, which follows his platinum-selling sophomore disc, 2015's Tangled Up, will be different than anything he's released in the past -- an intentional move by Rhett to show how much he has evolved since his freshman record, It Goes Like This, was released four years ago.

"My records, a lot of the times, don’t have themes, because they’re all over the place and scattered, but I will say, this record is very nostalgic-feeling," Rhett shared with The Boot and other reporters at a recent media event. "There’s a lot of songs that feel very nostalgic and, lyric-wise, talk a lot about being in high school and college, and how I got to this point in life. And [there's] a lot of songs about how life has drastically changed over the last few years.

"And, sonically, [it's] way more progressive than the last record," he adds. "[There are] a lot of story songs on this record, which is kind of different from the last one."

The debut single from Life Changes, "Craving You," a duet with Maren Morris, recently became Rhett's eighth chart-topping single. One of the most successful artists currently in country music -- both in terms of album sales and radio success, not to mention in terms of his headlining Home Team Tour -- the 27-year-old is taking it all in stride.

"I think for me, personally, I’m just trying to enjoy the ride and trying to cherish all these great moments," Rhett shares. "We have gotten to do a lot of cool stuff over the past couple years, and especially this year. Getting to headline and having a baby and putting a record out, it’s probably the busiest year of my life, but [it's] a lot of good things I’ll remember for a lifetime."
