Now that Tim McGraw has officially parted ways with Curb Records, he’s searching for his next big deal and big contract. While the singer will release an independent single to radio in January, he’s been window shopping at the biggest labels in Nashville.

There are potentially tens of millions of dollars on the table for a multi-album contract with a major record label like Warner, Sony or Capitol. The Tennessean reports that McGraw and manager Coran Capshaw have had preliminary chats with executives from all three, as well as one with the head of Big Machine Records, the independent label that is currently home to Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts.

The end of the year in the music business often resembles the NBA trading deadline, with executives and promotions staff switching teams in a rush before the first business day of 2012. The Tennessean suggests that McGraw will wait for things to settle down before deciding which company or which executive he wants to work with. Lawsuits are still pending from and against Curb Records; two cases are expected to be heard early next year.

An all-star lineup of country superstars have “switched teams” in the past two years, including Alan Jackson (from Sony to Capitol), Martina McBride (Sony to Big Machine), Rascal Flatts (Lyric Street to Big Machine) and Montgomery Gentry (Sony to Average Joe’s). It’s likely that the next two years will bring more shakeups.
