From shelters to foster and adoption groups, there are many different options when you are looking to add a new four-legged member to your family. Every week Townsquare's Pet Patrol, brought to you by Midtown Animal Hospital highlights adoptable pets from across the Southwest Oklahoma and North Texas areas, hoping to find furr-ever homes for shelter pets from throughout the region.

This week we are highlighting animals from 12 shelters, and hope to add more as momentum builds for this project. We will also be featuring information on upcoming events at our local shelters, as well as bringing you information on upcoming fund raising activities for these organization.

The Pet Patrol is brought to you by Midtown Animal Hospital. We would also like to thank Just 4 K9s and Kitties 2, your home for grooming supplies, as well as all of your pets' needs, from food to beds to toys. Please remember to spay and neuter, and of course to adopt, not shop!

SUCCESS STORIES

Once again, the Carnegie Animal Shelter is our success story. Going into the long holiday weekend, they had 8 dogs and only 5 kennels. Facing having to put down at least 3 dogs by Monday a call to action was put out and 1 foster home was found, 2 other were moved to other kennels, while 2 more were claimed by their owners, easing the overpopulation emergency in Carnegie.

 UPCOMING EVENTS

Stephens County Humane Society will be hosting their annual Bark In The Park on Saturday, October, 21st. They are currently in need of sponsors for the event. Anyone interested in being involved can contact event chairperson Patti Whitaker at 580 641-0667.

Telly is a young Black Lab mix who came to us as a stray, but it didn't take us long to figure out just how wonderful he is!

Telly is about a year old, give or take, and has outstanding leash manners. He also gets along with other dogs, making him a prime candidate for social activities, i.e., walks, visits to dog parks, hiking, camping, etc. Telly is also crate-trained and tries to keep his kennel clean, indicating house-training manners.

Telly is people-oriented and looks to his person for direction, making him easy to train and a delight to have around! Telly is also good around children; however, he still has quite a bit of puppy in him and small children may be accidentally knocked over from time to time.

For more information or to meet Telly, call SCHS at 580-252-7387. He tested negative for heart worms, has been neutered, and UTD on his vaccinations. He is healthy, happy and ready for a home of his own!

Sassy was surrendered by her owner to a local shelter when they could no long care for her. She’s been with us a short time, but acts like she has been here all her life.  Sassy is a very sweet girl that gets along well with other dogs. Her favorite pastime is getting belly rubs and snuggling. She should fit into any family.

Sassy appears to be a 4 year old Lhasa Apso mix. She has been spayed and is current on all her vaccinations.  She tested negative for heart worms and 3 tick borne diseases, and has been micro-chipped. Sassy will require periodic grooming, and depending on her mix, should be fairly non-shedding.

Please consider giving Sassy a new home. For more information about Petey, e-mail swoan@swbell.net
