Saturday was the National Day of Volunteering, which ask people across the country to take action and volunteer to improve their local communities. Across Lawton, volunteer groups took to local parks in the area to help clean up, freshen up and over all improve location.

One group from Cameron University, who called themselves "The Greek Squad", took to Highland Cemetery in Lawton. The group, made up of members of Alpha Phi and Omega Jeta Theta sororities and Alpha Sigma Phi fraternities, presented themselves to the supervisors at the memorial park, who assign them to needed tasks. And the Greek Squad spent the day repainting the fences around the cemetery.

The National Day of Volunteering occurs twice yearly, once in the fall, and again on Martin Luther King Day. National Volunteer Week is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities. We want to take the opportunity to thank the Greek Squad and all the other groups that volunteered throughout Lawton and the surrounding area for their work to improve our community.
