FOX’s upfront announcements have come and gone, cementing that The X-Files won’t return for another round just yet, even if its revival season cliffhanger left off on a pretty urgent note. David Duchovny has his own opinions on what a new season would need, but Gillian Anderson says FOX hasn’t even so much as inquired about her availability.

Take this with a grain of salt for the moment, as last we heard, FOX boss Dana Walden suggested the 2017 upfront season might bring with it word of new X-Files, though a wide-ranging chat with Deadline saw Anderson acknowledging her her need to move on. We’ll next see the once and future Dana Scully in Starz’s American Gods, but when might FOX come a-callin’?

For me, it was important that I thought of this season as being just these six shows when we were doing it. The long insanity of the schedule [demanded it]. I’m open to the conversation, though they haven’t come to us yet. I have no clue when they’re going to. I’m getting on with the rest of my life and I’m booking other jobs, so if it is indeed something that they would like to continue, then that conversation will need to be had. And I have no idea when that will be able to take place at this juncture.

That said, TVLine followed up with a representative for 20th Century Fox, who insisted otherwise:

Dana’s statement was and is accurate. Representatives for Gillian, David and Chris have been approached about doing more. Nothing more to report at this time.

Given Duchovny’s recent suggestion that an additional X-Files season should reunite the pair for more than six episodes, one might wonder if the duo want FOX to court them a bit more aggressively for an eleventh season.

In the meantime at least, Duchovny has Aquarius, while Anderson prepares to shoot American Gods, but should we hope for X-Files to get its stars on the same page soon?
