When Brett Eldredge announced his self-titled album, he noted it would a true representation of who he is. "Castaway" certainly accomplishes that. One of the new tracks on the yet-to-be-released record, the song is an honest look at his journey with love — approaching it, running away from it and everything in between.

The video is an introspective glimpse into the inner struggle he has experienced on a personal level, showing Eldredge walking alone past a woman, out of a bar and onto the stage at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium, where the pews are empty. The artist steps into the spotlight and sings his heart out to no one, giving the song a particularly poignant delivery. Eventually, the woman from the beginning of the video at the bar wanders into the Ryman and sits down to listen, unnoticed by Eldredge, who remains disconnected from her.

Eldredge shared a clip of the video on Instagram, calling the song “the most honest” he’s ever written. “Love is hard ... Should I run towards it or get far away from it? I am always stuck somewhere in between …” he says.

The singer-songwriter’s new record will be out Aug. 4, but fans can go ahead and download four of the tracks, including “Somethin’ I’m Good At,” “Love Someone,” and “The Long Way.” Eldredge has said the record is self-titled because of its transparency, even though it makes him a bit nervous.

“It’s kind of crazy to see an album cover with just your name on it. I think that shows what I want to say with this album,” he explains. “Maybe it takes a little bit of guts to put out a self-titled album — but if it’s 100% honestly you, then that should come across through the music. That’s my name and I hope my fans love me for me. Hopefully they feel the connection of these songs and they help them through their everyday lives. Because that’s why I make this music.”
