It's just about the time of year when it gets too hot to enjoy your regular fishing routine. Instead of retreating into the air conditioning, let's change it up.

With the same tackle and gear you already have, you're ready to fish for bullfrogs in Southwest Oklahoma. If you've never fished for frogs, you have no idea how much fun you're missing.

First off, because we live in a time where intelligent people are silenced to protect the feeling of the stupid and some Karen emails me in disgust of this whole idea, it is a real thing that is fully governed by the Oklahoma Wildlife Department. Plus, frog legs are delicious.

Nature always provides and some of us humans are still the apex predator on the planet.

Secondly, it's unlike anything you've fished for in your life.

Every time we go fishing for frogs, one of two things always happens... Either you hook a frog and pull in dead weight as if it were a saugeye... or they fight like hell in the water and continue the hilarious chaos up on the bank until you manage to catch them.

Either way, you're still earning a good meal, but the state has three important rules every angler must abide by...

Every angler is limited to 15 frogs per day. Like all wild game in the state of Oklahoma, you cannot sell it or ship it out of state.

Thirdly, the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge is off-limits to catching frogs.

Additionally, the OK Wildlife Department goes on the specify that any means of harvesting your frogs are legal with a fishing license. This includes your rod and reel, hook and line, gigs, spears, and even the humble and challenging fishing bow and arrow.

That being said, firearms are prohibited you have a hunting license and a place open to shoot frogs. Most lakes prohibit the practice. Plus, why would you want to risk ruining that meat and skip all the fun of landing one on a rod and reel?

They'll bit topwater frog baits and pretty much anything that grabs their attention, but I've always been partial to the Texas-rigged 6-8" purple worm. It never fails. Good luck.
