One of the worst feelings in the world is finding out that your spouse is cheating on you. Although we love singing songs about getting our revenge on them or their belongings, we all know just how much trouble we could get into by doing all of that.

But there is something you can do about their infidelity if you choose to do so - just remember that it's no small deal to commit adultery in Oklahoma.

Can You Go To Jail For Cheating On Your Spouse?

Adultery is actually a jailable offense in Oklahoma and the spouse (and even the other person involved in the affair) can face up to $500 worth of fines.

In Oklahoma, adultery is considered a crime with different types of legal repercussions. Consequences could influence custody arrangements with children and possible financial consquences as well.

Now, even though the law says that adulterers can be jailed, it's not very likely that courts will actually take someone in for their unsavory acts. Maybe, it's not taken as seriously since it has become so common in the United States?

How Common Is Cheating?

According to statistics, 20% of married men and 13% of married women admitted to having sexual intercourse with someone other than their spouse during their marriage.

Now, in the eyes of the law, adultery actually involves "laying down" with someone else. But, we all know in this day and age that cheating doesn't have to be physical. Nowadays, emotional infidelity is even more common, especially with women.

According to research, "77% of men confessed to engaging in some form of emotional affair, while women accounted for 91%." Although being unfaithful does seem a little more common than decades before, the United States in general still sees it as fairly unforgivable.

In fact, according to studies, about 84% of Americans agree that cheating is morally unacceptable. But for some reason, there's only one area of the U.S. that may actually enforce the jailable offense.

Don't Mess Around With Military

The only folks in the United States that do take adultery extremely seriously are the military. I can't tell you how many times I've heard folks recount stories of actual jail time in the military being served when someone steps out of their marriage.

According to Military Justice Attorneys, military members that are convicted of adultery face "federal criminal conviction, confinement, and a punitive discharge from the military." For service members, punitive discharge can mean more than a bad rep in the military.

Not only do they forfeit their pay, lose their rank, and their ability to claim themselves as a veteran by the government, but they also lose all military benefits and must disclose that they were discharged by the military any time they apply for a job.

@enterviewteev Adultery is serious. Especially in the military.
