It's always best to prepared during storm season and Wichita County was recently approved to offer rebates for citizens that install new shelters at their residence for the next few months.

Scroll Through to Ensure You Follow All the Steps to Get the Rebate

Eligible applicants will receive a rebate of 50 percent of their shelter and installation costs, up to $3,000. The storm shelter will have needed to be installed after August 2nd, 2024. The installation must be completed and paid in full before a request for rebate can be submitted. This also must be on a property you own and not one that you rent.

Step 1: Fill Out An Application

Link attached at the Wichita County website for you to fill out. Please note you cannot live in a flood plane to be a part of the rebate program. If your application gets approved you can then begin the installation of the safe room. DO NOT begin installation until you get your approval letter from Wichita County or you may not receive a rebate.

Step 2: Pay for Everything in Full by May 31, 2026

All paperwork and proof that the work has been paid for must be submitted by May 31, 2026. That is when this grant rebate officially ends. You can send all of your receipts for proof that the work has been paid to Nancy.Gregory@co.wichita.tx.us

Step 3: Use Approved Contractor for Installation

This is key, you must use an approved contractor for installation. A full list can be found on this website. Only three of them are somewhat local to us and one of those is in Lawton.
