For the last several years, fans of more substantive songwriting have widely lamented the lack of quality songs at country radio, but veteran country star Aaron Tippin says that's finally beginning to change.

Today's KLAW Classic comes to us from nearly 20 years ago from Aaron Tippin.

October 21, 1967 The Music City News presents its first annual awards at Ernest Tubb's Record Shop. Merle Haggard wins Favorite Male Artist, and Loretta Lynn wins Favorite Female Artist.

October 14, 1985 At the Country Music Association Awards, bluegrass legends Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs were elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry House, while Ricky Skaggs was named Entertainer of the Year and The Ricky Skaggs Band was named Instrumental Group of the Year.

Saturday morning (May 12), country music fans were shaken by rumors that Aaron Tippin was involved in a fatal plane crash which occurred in Kansas, killing three individuals and sending the two survivors to the hospital. Tippin, well-known for his pilot skills and love for flying, was thought to be involved, as the plane that went down once belonged to him.

Aaron Tippin was one of the first products of reality TV.  He competed in TNN's You Can Be A Star and landed a song publishing contract.
