Governor Stitt COVID-19 Update Includes new Regulations
Governor Kevin Stitt just held a press conference to update Oklahoman's on the COVID-19 pandemic and outlined some new regulations that will be put in place this week throughout the state.
CCMH Sees Increase in COVID-19 Hospitalizations
The dreaded second wave of COVID-19 is here and we're seeing a sharp increase in not only positive cases being reported in Lawton, Fort Sill and Comanche County but hospitalizations as well. Over the past couple of weeks Comanche County Memorial Hospital has seen a significant rise in Coronavirus hospitalizations.
Bed Bath & Beyond Closing Stores Due to Pandemic
COVID-19 has claimed another National chain that will be closing stores due to the pandemic and it's negative economic impact. Bed Bath & Beyond announced that it will be closing over 200 stores in the U.S. and Canada over the next few years. Recently they listed the first 60 stores that will be closed by year's end.
Mayor Stan Booker and Councilman Jay Burk Facing Recall?
Lawton city Mayor Stan Booker and Ward Four City Councilman and Mayor Pro-tem Jay Burk could be facing a recall. A local group called the Freedom Defense Alliance is organizing and collecting signatures on a petition to begin the recall process for both the mayor and the councilman.
Sara Lee Bread Store in Lawton Has Closed
Sadly another business in Lawton, Fort Sill is closing. The Sara Lee Bread Store located at 2701 S.W. Lee Blvd is closing it's doors for good. While there isn't a whole lot of details on the closing, we're pretty sure the COVID-19 pandemic and shutdowns had a lot to do with it. We've lost count as far as how many businesses here in town have had to shut their doors permanently due to the virus.
Chick-fil-A Reopens Today After COVID-19 Shutdown
The Chick-fil-A on Cache Road is back open today (08-19-20) after being temporally shutdown due to COVID-19 concerns. The entire restaurant has been completely strip cleaned inside and out and thoroughly sanitized after last week's exposure to the Coronavirus. They'll be open from 10:30am to 8:00pm and I'll be hitting the drive-thru for lunch today to get my chicken on. It's great to have them back up and running.
Chick-fil-A on Cache Closed Due to COVID-19
Remain calm, all's well, there's certainly no need to panic. Yes, the Chick-fil-A on Cache road has closed temporarily due to COVID-19 exposure, but will re-open soon. Maybe as soon as next week, or the week after. We wish all involved and the entire staff at Chick-fil-A on Cache all the best and a speedy return!
Lawton City Council Postpones Discussion On Mandatory Mask Ordinance
Yesterday the city council met to hear arguments both for and against the city's mandatory face mask ordinance. The mask ordinance went into effect back on July 17th (07-17-20) when the council passed the new mandate and it remains in effect currently. Those apposed asked the council back on July 28th (07-28-20) to repeal the measure and yesterday's meeting was an acknowledgement of that.
Beware There’s a New Scam in Lawton
It looks like a new scam is making it's rounds here in Lawton, Fort Sill so be aware and whatever you do don't fall for it. If you've been on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram lately you may have seen or heard about this. Hopefully you haven't been scammed already.
Lawton Public Schools Release COVID-19 Safety Procedure Videos
LPS (Lawton Public Schools) release several COVID-19 safety procedure videos yesterday. They loaded them to their official LPS TV YouTube channel and sent them out via text message as well. If for some reason you didn't receive the text and haven't seen the videos yet we have them for you.
