The animosity between SNL and Donald Trump isn’t going anywhere, but it’s hard to overlook the series’ role in normalizing the then-presidential candidate. Well, as it turns out, SNL apparently tried to mend fences with its fiercest critic, inviting Trump back alongside Alec Baldwin.

Just when you thought American Idol had floated back out to sea, ABC may be throwing a lifeline. The Dancing With the Stars network has reportedly made a bid for the 2018 revival where FOX and NBC couldn’t, but Ryan Seacrest might finally be too busy to participate.

Ol’ Spicey gave us a taste of Melissa McCarthy’s SNL return this weekend (from another coast at that), presumably warming up for the comic actress’ full-fledged return in May. Don’t expect Sean Spicer to actually weigh in on the episode, as the White House Press Secretary claims not to watch any of the show (his boss would probably get mad).

It made sense of SNL to hire Melissa McCarthy for a fifth hosting gig, rather than rely on a weekly Sean Spicer impression. Nonetheless, our first live coast-to-coast SNL show managed to coax McCarthy’s Spicer out for Easter, and with an intriguing twist at that.

Forty-two seasons of comedy are bound to see SNL traversing some familiar ground, but a recent sketch from this past weekend’s Louis C.K. return may stepped over the line. Tig Notaro fans are accusing a pre-recorded clown sketch of aping one of the comedian’s short films, subbing in C.K. for her.

No one was exactly surprised to see Alec Baldwin kicking off the final five SNL episodes of Season 42 as Donald Trump, though the reluctantly recurring star added yet another major media impression. More often than not, hot-ticket network revivals are usually one-and-done, but Will & Grace fans are at least getting some additional bang for their buck. NBC’s revival of Will, Grace, Jack, Karen and the rest is getting an extension, adding a few more episodes to its run.

Whether or not American Idol jumped the gun to plot a reboot so soon after its “Farewell Season,” the point may be moot. Reports indicate that neither NBC nor FOX were able to negotiate a deal with the studios behind Idol, likely shelving any revival for the foreseeable future.

Once upon a time, Alec Baldwin taking on the role of SNL’s Donald Trump seemed like an amusing guest spot to take us through the debates. Now, the question remains how long Baldwin will play the beleaguered president, especially as the reigning host claims he never wanted the role in the first place.

It wasn’t terribly surprising that FOX would say goodbye to American Idol after so many years, but word that NBC might look to revive it alongside The Voice came more unexpectedly. Now, FOX is reportedly bidding for the rights to bring American Idol back on its own, almost exactly as we remember it.

If perhaps SNL seemed to be sleeping on the job with its two-hosts-per-month in 2017, they had good reason. Not only have the final four hosts been announced, including Jimmy Fallon, Melissa McCarthy and The Rock, but shows will air live across the country for the first time in history.

The rumors are true: SNL is taking Weekend Update out for a primetime spin once more. Seeing as today’s news is never not in need of incisive comedy, Colin Jost and Michael Che will end their summer breaks early to bring new half-hour Weekend Update episodes to NBC.
