A rattlesnake swimming in a Texas lake? This resurfaced video is surprising plenty of East Texans.

The Texas Star Mushroom, or Devil’s Cigar, is one of the rarest fungi in the world — found only in Texas, Oklahoma, and Japan. It “hisses” when it blooms and releases a puff of spores that look like smoke.

Their conservation efforts for Louisiana pine snakes began in 2015 to preserve the highly endangered species. Their efforts have allotted for the release of nearly 230 snakes into the wild, including 75 snakes that were just released on May 9, 2024.
