Today's spotlight falls on a singer and songwriter that definitely has identity issues. He has recorded and released material both under his given name and as alter ego.

Granger Smith has released nine albums in his career, 8 on his own personal label and the 9th for Pioneer Music. He has also written and merchandises under the name Earl Dibbles Jr., with a line of items that include tshirts, hats, guitars and other various memorabilia.

In 1998, Smith was signed to his first song writing contract by EMI Music Publishing at age 19. He soon moved from Dallas to Nashville, and began work on his first self-produced album, Waiting on Forever. It wouldn't be until 2008, 4 independently produced albums later, that a single from Smith would begin to get airplay by country music radio. The single, "Colorblind", much like his next 15 singles would not get enough notice from radio to crack the top 100.

In May of 2015, Smith signed released the EP 4x4, which sold over 32,000 copies in its first week. The early success of the EP caught the attention of BBR Music Group, who signed Smith to their Wheelhouse Records label, and assumed distribution of the EP. The EP not only features Smith, but also his alter ego, Dibbles. Dibbles is also a frequent contributor to Smith's YouTube docu-series "Yee Yee TV", while Smith is seen regularly on the CBS Sports Network with a segment called "Dip 'Em And Pick 'Em".

Smith has come to the fore-front in country music's alternative distribution movement. He has found many different ways to promote his work. Now, with the strength of Wheelhouse Records behind him, the skies the limit. The first single off of 4x4 is in "wheelhouse" today. Granger Smith and "Backroad Song" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
