Today's artist first came to our attention as the lead singer for a trio, that became a duo, and now she is out on her own as a solo act. She has also hit the top of the country chart dueting with one of the most successful rock bands of the 1980s.

For the better part of the past 12 years, Jennifer Nettles has been primarily known as the lead singer for the group Sugarland, but since 2013, she has been trying to make her way in Nashville as a solo act, with the group "on hiatus" since 2012. She formed the group, along with Kristian Bush and Kristen Hall in Nashville in 2003, after the three had all been regulars on the Atlanta folk music scene since the mid-90s. They came together as songwriters, but began playing around Atlanta, and soon Nashville came knocking.

Sugarland signed with Mercury Records Nashville in 2004, releasing the trio's debut album Twice The Speed of Life, which would eventually go double platinum and feature 4 singles, 3 of which would peak in the top-10. Kristen Hall would leave the group in 2006, under unclear circumstances. Bush and Nettles would continue as a duo, releasing 3 more studio albums and a live album, charting 9 more top-10 hits, 5 of which would go to number one.

Things seemed to change with Sugarland beginning with a law suit filed by Hall against the group in 2008. Hall claimed among other things that she was the one that came up with the bands name, and that she was owed profits from the use of the name. Bush and Nettles countered stating that no profit-sharing agreement had been made prior to Hall's leaving the group. The lawsuit was eventually settled in 2010, terms of the agreement are undisclosed. Then, in August of 2011, an outdoor stage collapsed due to high winds prior to Sugarland's performance at the Indiana State Fair. While no members of the band were injured, 7 people attending the show were killed and 45 others were injured. Two months later, Sugarland would perform a benefit concert to honor the victims of the Indiana State Fair. 44 law suits were eventually filed against Sugarland and the organizers of the show.

Nettles married Justin Miller in November of 2011 and after a short 2012 summer tour, went on maternity leave. That tour would be the final tour (to date) for Sugarland as Nettes and Bush have both released solo projects in the time since. In 2014 Nettles released her debut solo album That Girl. Bush would follow suit in 2015, releasing his first solo album, Southern Gravity. Also in 2015, Nettles would head to Broadway, starring in a production of Chicago. She would also co-star in the tv-movie Coat of Many Colors, based on the song by Dolly Parton. Nettles portrayed Parton's mother Avie.

Nettles would sign with Big Machine Records in 2015, releasing her second solo album Playing With Fire in May of this year. The first single "Unlove You" peaked at #24, and we have the second single from the album in our spotlight today. Jennifer Nettles and "Hey Heartbreak" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll wanna hear it again.
