Today the spotlight falls on a young singer/songwriter who hails from Cherry Valley, Illinois. An artist whose debut single was co-written by country legend Bill Anderson, a song that no one could ever say isn't "Country".

Mo Pitney was born and raised in Illinois, but moved to Nashville in order to make his way in country music, but Pitney believes that "music isn't a place on a map, its a place in your heart". Pitney's heart has been country as long as he can remember, learning to play the guitar at age 8. It that music-centered outlook that has gotten the eye (and ear) of those in the Nashville know.

Pitney's debut single "Country", co-written by "Whispering Bill" Anderson, was as much a positioning statement as it was an introduction. The song tells every one exactly who Pitney is, telling a story of outdoor life, family, faith and patriotism offer a spot on portrayal of not only the artist, but also those he holds close to his heart. It doesn't matter to Pitney whether he is playing in front of a sold out crowd at the Grand Ole Opry or in front of a bonfire; he loves family, friends, God and country.

The single climbed to #40 on the Billboard country chart, failing in part to Curb Records failure to push the single to country radio. The song was described as a "reminder of how good a simple country song sung by a man who believes in God and George Strait can feel", according to Billy Duked of tasteofcountry.com. The song was the third most added song the week of week of Dec 16th, 2014, and spent 19 weeks on the chart, falling off in June.

Pitney is currently in the studio working on his debut album for Curb, which will include "Country" and the song that is in today's spotlight. The second single from the project is today's Catch of the Day; Mp Pitney and "Boy and A Girl Thing" is new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
