Today we turn our focus to a duo who has had two #1 hits and recently bolstered the group by adding a third member. A pair who worked as solo artists before meeting during a singing competition and decided to pair up, both professionally and personally.

Keifer and Shawna Thompson met while performing in Nashville at a local singing competition, and have been together ever since. Their first professional collaboration was singing back-up for Ty Herndon on his 2007 album Right About Now. Thompson Square performed around Nashville for a couple of years, both as a duo and as session singers. In 2010, they signed with Stoney Creek Records, a subsidiary of Broken Bow Records, releasing their debut single "Let's Fight" the same year. The song would serve as the lead single from their debut, self-titled 2010 album. While many critics called the song one of the best written songs of that year, it failed to break the top-50 on the country singles chart.

Later that year, the duo released their second single, the David Lee Murphy penned "Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not". The song would not only become their first top-10 hit, it would also be their first chart-topper, spending two weeks atop the chart in 2011. The single has been certified double platinum. It would lead to Thompson Square winning the Top Vocal Duo Award at the 2012 Academy of Country Music Awards show, an award they would again capture in 2013.

In late 2012, the duo released their lead single for their second album, Just Feels Good. "If I Didn't Have You" would hit the top of the chart in May of 2013. The album would also feature the singles "Everything I Shouldn't Be Thinking About", which would peak at #4 and "Testing The Water", which would peak outside the top-50.

In 2015, the duo appeared on the album Blow Up The Moon, from rock/blues group Blues Traveler. They also released the single "Trans Am", but, most of the year their attention its been another production that has had the attention of Shawna and Keifer.

On January 24th at 2:16 am, after 16 years as a duo Thompson Square became a trio, as the happy couple welcomed Rigney Cooper Thompson, a 7 lb, 13 oz boy to the family. With the production of Rigney complete, Thompson Square returned to the studio to put the finishing touches on their third album. We have the second single from that as yet untitled third album in our spotlight today. Thompson Square and "You Make It Look So Good" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
