It's hard to believe, but Memorial Day weekend is almost here! Take some time this weekend to honor and remember those service men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure our continued freedoms. They're the real reason that we live in the greatest country in the world!

Without a doubt Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt is the absolute coolest Gov. in the entire country! I'm just going to say it "Damn I'm proud of Oklahoma and our Governor!" Yesterday (05-12-21) Gov. Stitt hosted a quick cookout in OKC with local and area farmers, ranchers and grill loving Oklahomans. It was kind of a pop up cookout in that it took place on the side of the road on Southeast 15th Street in OKC near the PETA billboard.

First Baptist Church in downtown Lawton located at 501 S.W. B Avenue will be having a food distribution event tomorrow morning (04-10-21) starting at 9:00am. They'll be handing out FREE FOOD that includes milk, meat, dairy and produce while supplies last.

Over the past several years Heinz has introduced all kinds of crazy condiments with their Flavor Mash Ups. Some are really good, others not so much. But, to be honest it's searching them out and trying them out that makes it's so fun. I love trying out all the new flavors and strange combinations, from wild to mild. You'd be surprised at how good some of these creations taste and pair with different foods. Well, Heinz just released a new batch of Flavor Mash Ups just in time for Summer cook outs and the official BBQ season.

If you've never been to Razzoo's Cajun Cafe you're missing out, especially if you're a fan of Cajun cuisine. Unfortunately we don't have one in Lawton, Fort Sill, but maybe someday one will open up *fingers crossed*. If so you'll find me there most days and nights getting my fill of creole cooking and eating Rat Toes and Fried Gator Tail until I bust.

The war rages on as the battle of the birds continues. It's a strongly debated argument that's been going on for years now, "Which fast food place has the best chicken sandwich?" We all have our favorites, but which one is the absolute best? You know, the one chicken sandwich to rule them all! It seems every day there's a new one being hatched and another restaurant adding to the menu their take on the chicken sandwich.

I'm sure by now you've done this, if not it's not too late. When was the last time you made a snow cone using real snow? If it's been awhile, or if you've never done it, here's a quick and easy recipe for you. Just hit play on the video and in no time you'll be enjoying a frosty, frozen, flavorful treat. It's one of the easiest DIY treats around and the flavors and possibilities are nearly endless. We just got more snow yesterday evening so it's fresh and ready to be scooped up and used.

You've heard the old saying "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." Well the same is true for when life gives you snow, you make snow ice cream! If you've never done this before, you're missing out. It's super easy to do and tasty too.

Today's the day, happy National Pizza Day! In my honest, humble, non-bias opinion everyday should be pizza day. It's one of the most popular foods in the U.S. and for good reason. Pizza is the perfect cuisine. You basically get all your major food groups in a handy, no silverware needed, ready to eat slice. Plus there's a never ending variety of pizza available, so no matter your taste there's a pie that's perfect for you.

This weekend I'm looking forward to spending a little quality time in front of the big screen in the recliner with drink and snacks in hand. This Sunday is the BIG GAME and even though I won't have all the family and friends over to the house thanks to COVID-19, I'm still planning on making TONS of food and snacks for the few of us that will be watching the game. The pandemic has really screwed up this years party just like everything else it's screwed up, but we'll just have to make the best of it.

Someone needs to buy this property and turn it into a diner, or burger joint. I cut through downtown this morning and passed by what I think was the old Lawton Housing Authority building. You know the one, it's got the train car set up out front. It's right across the street from C.L. Boyd Co Inc. and near the corner of Southeast 2nd street and Southeast F Ave. I love that old building and wish I had the means to buy it and transform it into a 50's style diner, it would make the coolest restaurant in town.

Valentine's Day is just around the corner and it's never too early to start planning ahead.
