Sharing My Thoughts on ‘I Hold On’ by Dierks Bentley [REVIEW]

When you work in radio you don't 'listen' to the radio like most people. We hear things you don't hear and you hear things we don't hear.

Trust me, just ask my friends. We will be sitting in a fast food restaurant that has KLAW on the overhead and I'll stop mid sentence because I either heard or didn't hear something that should or should not have played on the air.

It's the same thing with the songs. We don't sit and listen to the songs all the time, we don't have time! We are doing lots of other things while the music is playing. Some songs catch my attention and then I really sit and listen to them over and over again. The new song 'I Hold On' from Dierks Bentley was one of those songs.

Marriage Isn’t For You, Or Me!

A friend recently sent me a blog post with the title "Marriage Isn't For You" and my first reaction was "WELL! How dare they! They don't know me! I adore my husband." But the stubbornness in me decided to read the story and I am so glad I did! I loved it so much I want to share it with you.

Hunter Hayes (Feat. Jason Mraz), ‘Everybody’s Got Somebody But Me’ – Song Review

Hunter Hayes' duet with Jason Mraz is his fifth single release from his self-titled debut album and its repackaging. But 'Everybody's Got Somebody But Me' still manages to show something new to those who haven't bought it. It's a change of pace from the heavy ballads and the more intense country-rocker 'I Want Crazy.' This is the most fun he's been since 'Storm Warning.'

Jason Michael Carroll, ‘Close Enough’ – Song Review

Jason Michael Carroll pulls back the production to reveal a new sensitivity in his single 'Close Enough.' The singer has a unique way of taking a phrase and turning, twisting and shaping it to mean several different things within a three-minute song. It's a talent that's on display once again during this regret-filled ballad.

Luke Bryan, ‘Crash My Party’ – Album Review

Luke Bryan plays it safe on 'Crash My Party,' his new album and the follow-up to the tremendously successful 'Tailgates and Tanlines.' With the exception of the infusion of hip-hop on two songs, there is little to differentiate the two projects.

The Band Perry, ‘Don’t Let Me Be Lonely’ – ToC Critic’s Pick [Listen]

'Don't Let Me Be Lonely,' the third single from the Band Perry's 'Pioneer' album, is thematically similar to their biggest hit, but few will confuse this song with 'If I Die Young.' The latest track may not be as instantly catchy, but it's every bit the sharp songwriting effort the cut from the trio's debut album was.

Zac Brown Band, ‘Sweet Annie’ – Song Review

The Zac Brown Band's new single 'Sweet Annie' is another vocal and lyrical showcase for the singer. The collaborative spirit that defined them early on is missing, making the ensemble sound more like Zac Brown's band instead of the Zac Brown Band.

Austin Webb, ‘Slip on By’ – Song Review

Austin Webb's soulful new ballad 'Slip on By' will catch you off guard if you let it, and that's not such a bad idea. Webb sings a familiar, but not overdone, lesson about appreciating every moment we have on this Earth.

Brad Paisley, ‘I Can’t Change the World’ – Song Review

'I Can't Change the World' is Brad Paisley's anthemic ballad from his 'Wheelhouse' album. As a vocalist, he rarely soars like he does on this sonically complex, but lyrically simple love song. His performance as a singer and guitarist actually overshadows the strength of the song.

Album Spotlight: The Civil Wars, ‘The Civil Wars’ – ToC Critic’s Pick

The great mystery that sews intrigue at the root of 'The Civil Wars' is how two people who clearly don't get along can pretend with such conviction. The second album from this duo isn't tainted by disdain, contempt or ambivalence that hardens one's heart. In fact, it's more emotional than their Grammy-winning debut album. So clearly they're either brilliant actors, or they're in love.

Jennifer Nettles, ‘That Girl’ – ToC Critic’s Pick [Listen]

It would have been foolish to expect anything less than an original from Jennifer Nettles' debut solo effort. 'That Girl' rides in that funky furrow Sugarland cut deep for so many years without sounding like the duo at all.
