The Dixie Chicks brought their DCX MMXVI Tour to New York’s Madison Square Garden on Monday night (June 13). It was the first show they performed since a gunman unleashed at a gay club in Orlando, Fla. over the weekend, and the trio talked of the shooting that left 49 people dead.

According to Rolling Stone, the Dixie Chicks addressed the tragedy after they performed “Not Ready to Make Nice” during the encore.

“A real a–hole did something real bad this week and made us not ready to make nice, but we cannot let the hatred and the anger win out,” singer Natalie Maines told the audience. “We can’t leave you guys not ready to make nice.”

They then ended their set with a cover of Ben Harper’s “Better Way” as a rainbow heart was portrayed in the background and a rainbow flag was perched on the stage.

Several country artists took time to address the shootings over the weekend at the 2016 CMA Fest, as well. Luke Bryan closed the music festival on Sunday by asking the audience of 55,000 country fans in Nashville, Tenn. to pause for a moment of silence.

“Something has been real heavy on my heart tonight,” Bryan said, pausing in the middle of performing “Drink a Beer.” “I want us to take a brief moment of silence and think about all those families that have been affected in Orlando, Florida, in what happened in our great nation last night. Let’s take a moment of silence and pray for all the families and everybody affected.”

Earlier that same evening, Little Big Town dedicated their new song “Miracle” to the families affected in Orlando.
