From Donna Ham, Marketing Director Special Olympics Oklahoma:

Saturday, February 18, 2012, hearty individuals will plunge into freezing water at Lawton Country Club  for the eleventh annual Polar Plunge benefiting Special Olympics Oklahoma. Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. and the Polar Plunge begins at 11:00 a.m.

Many Polar Plungers arrive in costume to make the plunge an even more fun event. The goal for the eleventh Annual Polar Plunge is to raise $200,000 or more for Special Olympics Oklahoma.

“If you don’t get around to registering to plunge before Saturday, that’s OK, because we will sign you up on the day of the plunge!” said Jennifer Lightle, Special Olympics Oklahoma Special Events Director. “Last year, we had many people register on the morning of the plunge which makes my job so exciting.  It’s only $75 to register and all of the money raised stays right here in Oklahoma to support programs for the 9,500 Special Olympics Oklahoma athletes.”

The brave souls who are plunging are creating personal web pages to seek donations from friends and family. To support one of these individuals, see how the pledges are accumulating, or to become a Polar Plunger, visit the Special Olympics Oklahoma website and click on the Polar Plunge link.

Plunges have already occurred in Oklahoma City and Durant. There are eight remaining Polar Plunge locations this year:  February 11, Bartlesville at Hilton Garden Inn; February 11, Stillwater at Boomer Lake; February 18, Norman at Mark Heitz; February 18, Lawton on the Lawton Country Club; February 18, Tahlequah at Arrowhead Resorts on the Illinois River; February 25, McAlester at Stipe Recreation Center; February 25, Tulsa at Big Splash; March 3, Pauls Valley at Wacker Park.
