A Court Appointed Special Advocate is a trained and supervised volunteer, appointed by a judge to advocate for children. A CASA volunteer provides an independent investigation of the children’s circumstances for the judge. The CASA gathers information, writes reports, and makes recommendations to the judge. CASA volunteers advocate for what they believe to be in the child’s best interests.

To volunteer as a CASA
(Court Appointed Special Advocate)
• Be at least 21 years old
• Have a high school diploma
• Clear background check
• Have strong written and verbal skills
• Complete 40 hours of training
• Commit to at least one year of volunteering
• Be objective and persistent
• Be devoted to the best interests of the children
