Lady Gaga is set to play a country singer in a major motion picture, and she’s writing new music for the film.
The pop star, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, will star opposite Bradley Cooper in A Star Is Born, a remake of a remake of a remake that most famously starred Kris Kristofferson and Barbara Streisand in 1976. Gaga will play Ally, a newcomer who is being brought along by Cooper’s Jackson Maine. Eventually her star power surpasses his, there’s some drama, a few scenes of passion and if the new movie ends like the one with Kris and Babs … well, we won’t spoil it for you.
Country Music’s Best Actor? Who Do You Think?
USA Today recently shared a first look at the filming of the movie, set for a September 2018 release. At Coachella, Lady Gaga fans were asked to attend a taping at an offsite club. They were encouraged to wear country or cowboy clothes for the scenes, shot earlier this week.
A press release from Warner Brothers says Lady Gaga is writing and performing new music for the movie. It’s not her first country effort. Last year she made news for a song called “A-Yo” from her Joanne album that was written by famous country music songwriter Hillary Lindsey. Many felt the song was a country song, but she’s never tried to release it to country radio.
Singer Beyonce was originally attached to A Star Is Born and Coachella, but left both once she announced she is pregnant with twins.
