Michael Sam may be out of a job, but his buds at the WWE aren't gonna let him sit around and mope about it. Sam, the rookie defensive end who was cut by the Rams this past weekend, got an invite to appear on the Sept. 8 episode of "Monday Night Raw."

Sam, the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2012 and a seventh-round draft pick by the Rams in May, was the first openly gay player to appear in an NFL game during the preseason. He was stopped short of his goal to make a regular-season roster, and when the Rams announced their 10-man practice squad Monday, Sam wasn't on that either.

But he can join the long list of sports stars who've appeared on "Monday Night Raw," which includes Michael Strahan, Chad Ochocinco and Ben Roethlisberger.
Update:

Sam has been signed to the Dallas Cowboys practice squad Wednesday and apparently won't be appearing for WWE's Monday Night Raw.
