While big crimes like murder are relatively low across the Sooner State, they still happen. Other violent crimes like rape and aggravated assault happen at rates even higher than the huge population centers outside our state.

Current claim to fame, Oklahoma is the number one state for domestic violence against both men and women. Highest in the nation.

On the other side of that is Oklahoma's non-violent and property crime rate. It's a massive problem, especially in the small rural towns of the state.

Farmers can tell you all about it. As most Oklahoma farms are mostly unsecured, equipment and livestock just disappear and the owners usually won't notice for days or weeks.

Law enforcement is doing what it can to step up efforts to deter criminal activity, but if I were Santa Claus, I'd almost be afraid my cheerful gift-giving might give the wrong impression to those protectors.
