Dierks Bentley, Willie Nelson, the Civil Wars and Rosanne Cash are all set to perform at the second annual Johnny Cash Music Festival. The event is scheduled to take place on Friday, Oct. 5 in the Man in Black’s home state of Arkansas.
February 26 would have been Johnny Cash‘s 80th birthday, and while the country legend is no longer here to celebrate the occasion with his fans, those fans have come up with more than one way to honor his memory. As a part of the legendary Austin City Limits TV show, country stars Kenny Chesney, Ronnie Dunn, Kris Kristofferson, Jamey Johnson and more will be performing at Austin’s Moody Theatre to pay tribute with the ‘We Walk The Line: A Celebration of the Music of Johnny Cash’ concert.
Friends and family members of country legend Johnny Cash were on hand Wednesday morning to announce an 18,000 square foot museum honoring the life and career of the “Man in Black.” No exact date of the grand opening was announced for the downtown Nashville installation.
Johnny Cash, aka the Man in Black, was the king of infinite cool, and not exactly someone who would automatically come to mind when you think of lullabies or music with which to soothe babies. That is until the proud parents of 9-month-old twins Reece and Levi decided to use Cash as the soundtrack while their twins bounce around in their Jolly Jumpers.
Nashville legend Marshall Grant, the last surviving member of Johnny Cash‘s original band, passed away on Sunday after suffering an aneurysm. He was 83 years old.
Grant’s bass playing helped anchor the Cash combo known as the ‘Tennessee Two,’ and was a signature part of his early sound. Just as importantly, Grant, in the picture above on the right, served as the band’s road manager, working with Cash from 1954-1980.
The Oklahoma House on Monday voted to name "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" as the state's official gospel song.
If the measure becomes law, the song would join five others that have official status in the state, including the title song from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "Oklahoma!"
