Underwood Has A Historic Debut – Today In Country Music History [VIDEO]

Former American Idol winner Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus Take The Wheel” became the first song by a debut artist to enter the country charts inside the Top 40, coming onto the chart at #39. It would go on to become a multi-week number one.
The single was the lead off of Underwood's debut album,Some Hearts, and would win Grammy Awards for Best Female Country Performance and Best Country Song. It also win an Academy of Country Music award for 2005 Single of the Year as well as two CMT Awards for Breakthrough Video of the Year and Female Video of the Year. It has sold over 2 million digital downloa and 1 million ringtones, making Underwood the first country artist to achieve that pair
2008
Trace Adkins collects a gold single for "You're Gonna Miss This." The single was Adkins' third #1 country single and rose to #12 on the Hot 100 chart.

Garth Brooks was named Walmart’s best selling artist of all time with over 20 million albums sold.
Gretchen Wilson’s book Redneck Woman: Stories From My Life was released. It chronicled everything from her father leaving to the feeling she had about being pregnant.

Brooks & Dunn’s Brand New Man CD was certified multi platinum for sales of 6 million copies. The album produced four consecutive Number One singles: "Brand New Man", "Boot Scootin' Boogie", "My Next Broken Heart", and "Neon Moon"; a fifth single, "Lost and Found" peaked at #6.

Kenny Chesney’s Greatest Hits CD was certified double platinum. The album featured songs recorded between 1994 and 2000 as well as two new singles, "I Lost It" and "Don't Happen Twice."
