If you are a fan of big play football, Putnam City Stadium was the place to be last Thursday night, as the Lawton Wolverines got back on the winning track with a runaway 57-20 rout of the Putnam City West Patriots to open District 6AII-2 play.

The Wolverines fell behind 6-0 on a first quarter touchdown pass from PCW's Trey Gooch to receiver Nick Robinson. The Wolverines did not respond well, punting on their second drive with the Patriots taking over on their own 28. The Pats drove the ball into Wolverine territory, but just when in looked like they were driving towards a two score lead, Wolverine linebacker Levi Cain stepped in front of a Gooch pass and rambled 80 yards for a touchdown, a score that not only changed the mood of the game, but may have changed the mood of the Lawton season. At about midfield Cain started slowing down, but then made a cut and rumbled his way into the end zone.

But the big play craziness was far from over for Lawton.

On the next possession, quarterback Zack Hanna found Marcheenan Hair over the top for what appeared to be a long gain until Hair fumbled at the PCW 20 yardline. But, receiver Jair Thomas saved the day as he scooped up the fumble and rambled the rest of the way to score and give the Wolverines a 13-6 lead.

Lawton, who is 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference led 27-6 after one quarter despite running just six offensive plays in the quarter. The Wolverines' defense also had a second interception in the quarter that set up Thomas' second score, a 54-yard touchdown reception from Hanna.

Hanna, a junior, finished 9 of 12 for 213 yards and two touchdowns. Hair ultimately finished with 10 receptions for 113 yards.Lawton finished with 544 total yards of offense, holding held Putnam West (1-3, 0-1) to just 297 total yards, 206 of which came through the air. Jayden Garcia came in for Hanna late to go 3-3 passing with 25 yards. Jair Thomas caught two passes for the Wolverines, going for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Tre Curry led a committee of 7 running backs for the Wolverines, running for 131 yards and 2 touchdowns on 14 carries.
