10 Things in Oklahoma Cheaper Than Eggs

It goes without saying that the price of groceries today is insane, and we have not been spared by this inflation in Oklahoma. Just about everything has gone up, but the one that has been most baffling is the cost of eggs.

According to NPR, some of our breakfast staples were most affected by inflation in 2022, especially eggs due to a historic bird flu outbreak.

And we are still seeing a huge increase in the price of eggs. Just from November to December in 2022, eggs increased by 11.1 percent. And that number is expected to increase as we progress into 2023.

Since we're based out of Lawton, Oklahoma, we looked at what the price of eggs are currently at the area's main grocery stores. Below is an average price for a dozen eggs at each retailer as prices vary on egg type and quantity:

• Walmart - $7
• Target - $7
• Sam's Club - $8
• Homeland - $6

So with the price of eggs increasing and the price of bacon decreasing, we decided to list the top 10 Oklahoma essentials that are cheaper than eggs right now. (Oklahomans will be happy to know that if we get another winter storm and they run to the store for their snow essentials - milk and bread - they won't be as expensive as eggs.)

1. Braum's Gallon of Milk - $4.69

And sometimes Braum's will have a special where you can two gallons for $6. Still way cheaper than eggs.

2. Thick Cut Bacon - $5.49

You'll get more bacon for your buck nowadays. Price can differ depending on brand and cut, but the average seems to be about $5 for a pound of bacon.

3. Sonic Cheeseburger - $6.45

You can catch me at Sonic on Tuesday nights for their half price cheeseburgers. Again, still cheaper than eggs even at full price.

4. Head Country BBQ Sauce - $3.19

At these prices, Head Country could fuel Oklahomans for months.

5. Gallon of Red Diamond Sweet Tea - $4.49

Oklahomans need to stay hydrated in these crazy times.

6. Pound of Ground Beef - $4.99

Remember when beef used to be as expensive as eggs?

7. 14.5 oz Bag of Doritos - $6.59

As a chip-lover, I've noticed the price of salty fried potatoes has gone way up. But they're still cheaper than eggs.

8. Organic Wheat Bread - $6.49

And this is the bread that's good for you.

9. Pound of Unsalted Stick Butter - $4.69

Still expensive for the product, but still cheaper than eggs.

10. A Pint of Braum's Ice Cream - $4.49

We need something to eat our feelings with after spending all our money on the underground farmer's black market for a "good deal" on eggs.
