2021 Spirit of Survival is On! But will Look Way Different!

The year 2020 took so many things away from us.  Live music, weddings, funerals, and sporting events.  We are super excited that some of those things are finally, slowly coming back in whatever form we can get. I was very happy to hear the news that the Spirit of Survival is one of those things, with a twist.

Spirit of Survival is one of the biggest fundraisers for the Cancer Centers of Southwest Oklahoma, and give runners and bikers a chance to compete in sanctioned events usually in late September or early October, competing in half and quarter marathons, and 5K races. Those are still going to happen this year, just virtually.

The kids marathon, Spirit Walk and Bubble Run will still take place as a live event on Saturday, September 19, 2021.

If you have never participated in a virtual race, the Spirit of Survival website has tips for you on the blog.  They are also offering training tips as well.  Registration for all events open on May first.

If you are a SOS alumni, here's a chance for you to get some credit for all you've accomplished!  Take this quick poll and let us know how many events you've participated in over the last 15 years or so.  As for me, I've been blessed to act as MC for the last 3 years and have walked in just two events, one of them with a brand new knee!  Unfortunately, I had to have the other one replaced as well, and walking was not in my game plan after that.  Maybe when we come back with all live events, I'll be able to participate once again!
