A Platinum Rose Garden – Today In Country Music History [VIDEO]
November 21, 1986
Lynn Anderson collects the only platinum album of her career, for Rose Garden. The album featured the singles “I Don’t Wanna Play House” and the title track, and won Anderson the Grammy Award in 1971 for Best Female Country Vocal Performance.
The album also featured versions of “Sunday Morning Coming Down”, “Its Only Make Believe” (duet with Conway Twitty) and “For The Good Times.”

Rodney Atkins was arrested in Tennessee after his wife called police, alleging the singer tried to smother her with a pillow and flung her down the hall in front of their son.
He denied the charges and filed for divorce the next day.

The album featured hits from 1959 to 1966 and was the first appearance of his duet with his future wife June Carter, “Jackson” (#2), which would win a Grammy Award in 1968 for Best Country & Western Performance, Duo, Trio or Group.

In a deal engineered by Colonel Tom Parker, RCA Records buys Elvis Presley's contract and master tapes from Sam Phillips' Sun Records for $35,000. The papers are signed at the Sun Recording Studio in Memphis
