Aaron Lewis Releases ‘Folded Flag’ to Honor Flag Day [Listen]
Aaron Lewis has released a very special new song to honor fallen soldiers on Flag Day. The singer-songwriter shared a snippet of "Folded Flag" to his Facebook page on Wednesday (June 14) when he released the track digitally.
"In today’s world, the ultimate sacrifice that our servicemen and women give selflessly in protection of the American Dream is often overlooked," Lewis writes. "The first time I heard this song, I watched three battle-hardened special forces soldiers cry after hearing it. I knew it hit home and I know it deserved to be heard."
Marty Morgan, Luc Nyhus and Yasmine Van Wilt co-wrote "Folded Flag," and Ben Kitterman produced Lewis' recording. The song talks about the flag that is presented to families of service members who lose their lives defending their country.
"Two men with starch white gloves / Fold the colors ‘til they touch / It’s probably more than I deserve / But I’m proud to get this much / Sendin’ all the love I ever had / Inside this folded flag," Lewis sings in the chorus.
Lewis is best known as the singer and frontman of the hard rock group Staind, but he has ventured into country music in recent years with the release of an EP titled Town Line in 2011, followed by his full-length debut country album, The Road, in 2012. He released his second country album, Sinner, in 2016. Lewis kicks off his solo performances by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and is widely known for his patriotic stance and staunch support of the military.
"Folded Flag" is available for download at iTunes.
