Adam Sanders Finds Peace Amid Loss in ‘Good Day to Fly’ [Exclusive Premiere]

Adam Sanders is finding sunshine in the middle of darkness in his new single, "Good Day to Fly," premiering exclusively on Taste of Country today (March 3).

In the emotional tune Sanders co-wrote with Blake Bollinger and Jordan Rowe, the singer reflects on the day his grandfather died. Although he felt profound sadness, the weather was beautiful outside, making it the perfect day for his loved one’s trip to the afterlife.

"You picked a good day to fly / The only rain that’s coming down is coming from my eyes / There ain’t a cloud in the sky / No, it don’t make it easy to say goodbye, but you picked a good day to fly," Sanders sings in the chorus.

Sanders continues to sing about the juxtaposition between his swelling sadness and the beauty of the day throughout the song. For him, the beautiful day is a sign that his grandfather is in heaven looking down on him with a "picture-perfect view." Sanders also surmises that his grandfather chose such a day to depart due to his penchant for going "out in style." The grief and emotion of the song are only enhanced by the soaring instrumentation featuring piano, steel guitar and strong percussion.

The tune is undeniably personal and vulnerable, and Sanders says the inspiration came from his family’s own thoughts after his grandfather passed.

"'A Good Day to Fly' is a special song to me, because it was inspired by a conversation my dad and uncle had the day my grandpa passed away last February," Sanders says. "The lyrics have that tear in your eye, but smile on your face kind of feel to me and I hope it’s something fans can relate to and helps them remember and honor the people they have lost in their lives."

The song is Sanders’ first offering since his album, What If I’m Right, released in May of 2021. The project features the single, "Daddy, Jesus and Earnhardt," and has since surpassed 30 million album streams. The title track has achieved more than 20 million streams since its release.
