Was Alec Baldwin striking a blow for the common air traveler when he refused to stop playing Words With Friends on his smart phone while his American Airline flight was awaiting takeoff? While his actions may seem justified to some, almost half of Americans think the cell phone rule should be honored.

According to a new survey from Poll Position, 44 percent agreed with the current rule that passengers can’t use their cell phone when a plane is on the runway, 38 percent disagreed and 18 percent offered no opinion.

Baldwin’s actions last week, resulting in getting the boot off his flight, did, however, resonate with a majority of 18- to 29-year-olds. 70 percent in that age group answered that using a cell phone to play games before takeoff was alright, whereas only 24 percent said that it wasn’t.
