Angel Tree To Bring Christmas To Under Privileged Children [VIDEO]
A Lawton Christmas tradition returns on Saturday, November 19th, as the annual Salvation Army Angel Tree returns to the Central Mall. The Salvation Army's Women's Auxiliary is preparing to adorn this year's tree with over 600 angels this holiday season, representing the Christmas Dreams of underprivileged children in the Lawton area, ages newborn to 12.
Every year the auxiliary strives to give children who might not otherwise have a Christmas presents under the tree. People are asked to select an angel from the tree and to fulfill the child represented on that angel's Christmas wish. Items wished for include items like art supplies, educational toys, books, dolls, bicycles and clothing.
The opening ceremony will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in front of the Old Navy store in Central Mall in Lawton. Angels can be picked from the tree weekdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sundays from 1-5 p.m. All gifts should be turned into the Salvation Army no later than December 12th. Presents will be distributed by the Salvation Army on December 16th.
The Salvation Army is also looking for volunteers to help with the distribution of the gifts. To volunteer, call 355-1802.
