Angela Bassett Recruited for ‘Mission: Impossible 6,’ Cast Perfect Now
Folks, we’re finally going to hear Angela Bassett say the words, “Your mission, if you choose to accept it….” Well, probably. I haven’t read the script of Mission: Impossible 6, but I do know that today Bassett was cast as Ethan Hunt’s new CIA director.
According to Deadline, Bassett starts filming her bits of the film next week, and joins Tom Cruise, Henry Cavill, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirky and Alec Baldwin. So, the cast is pretty much undeniably perfect now. We don’t know what her character’s name is or what her relationship to Hunt and his crew will be (Mission: Impossible movies usually involve Tom Cruise getting burned and having to go on the run from the people he ostensibly works for), but this is definitely no small potatoes role. Bassett will be exec producing, alongside Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, a new show about 911 operators; she just finished up filming Marvel’s Black Panther movie, in which she plays T’Challa’s stepmother Ramonda; and she also made her directing debut with an episode of American Horror Story: Roanoke.
The plot for Mission: Impossible 6, as well as a possible subtitle, is still unknown, but we do know that Tom Cruise prepared for yet another nutty, “mind-blowing” stunt for a full year before production on the movie started. It’ll be hard to top the Burj Khalifa rappelling or the certifiably insane airplane stunt, but Cruise is the kind of determined guy who will eat a whole gallon of ice cream in one sitting while laughing about how messed up it is that everyone’s making him do it, even if no one has said a word.
Mission: Impossible 6 is directed by Christopher McQuarrie and hits theaters July 27, 2018.
