Another Victim of the Move Away From Incandescent Light Bulbs – Easy Bake Oven
The Easy-Bake Oven has undergone a makeover. Its most shocking change -- it'll no longer require a light bulb.
Actually, the federal government's move to phase out the incandescent light bulb prompted the makeover, since compact fluorescent bulbs don't generate enough heat to bake a cake.
The Easy-Bake's 11th and latest re-design features a heating element, much like mom and dad's real oven, comes in purple, has a curvy design and includes modern graphics. Michelle Paolino, vice president of global brand strategy and marketing at Hasbro says, "We wanted it to look more like a real appliance, not just a plastic toy."
I still have my Easy-Bake oven (in the box). A group of 4H students from Elgin put their allowance money together and bought me one for Christmas one year because I complained I never got one as a child. Was their a toy from your childhood that you really wanted but never got?
