Ashley McBryde Snags New Artist of the Year in 2019 CMA Awards
Ashley McBryde received the 2019 CMA award for New Artist of the Year on Wednesday night (Nov. 13). She beat out fellow nominees Cody Johnson, Midland, Carly Pearce and Morgan Wallen.
In her acceptance speech, the "A Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega" singer acknowledged one of the night's stars, singer Reba McEntire, who was hosting the show with Dolly Parton and Carrie Underwood.
"I once had the pleasure of playing a tribute show for Mr. John Prine," McBryde said from the stage. "The next day he shook my hand and said, 'You're real good. You're no Reba. But you're real good.' I cherish the little moments that are like that, truth and guidance from voices we respect and admire. I'm thankful for that, and for this. And for the opportunity to step up. Thank you."
Singer Blanco Brown and comedian Jim Gaffigan presented the award, and the pair appeared to be in good spirits as they cracked wise before handing off the win to McBryde.
"I should admit, when I was in high school, my nickname was Blanco," Gaffigan joked. He later asked the singer — who was carrying a brown leather satchel — "You got the card? That's what the bag is for?"
