If Blake Shelton ever had to audition for the show he coaches, he might make a surprisingly out-of-the-box choice of songs to sing ... or, would he? During an appearance on the Kelly Clarkson Show on Thursday (Nov. 21), Shelton revealed that he would audition for The Voice by singing a song from an undeniably iconic artist: classic hard rockers Kiss.

The cast of The Voice all appeared together on Clarkson's daytime talk show, and in one segment they all took questions from the audience. When one audience member asked them all what song they would sing in an audition for The Voice, they gave some thoughtful answers ... except for Shelton, who answered with his trademark humor when he responded, "'Lick It Up' by Kiss."

"You're so stupid," Clarkson said with a laugh, while Shelton's girlfriend, Gwen Stefani, interjected, "He was waiting to say that, by the way."

John Legend responded that he would likely audition with something along the lines of Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" or Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark," two songs he covers in his live shows. Stefani demurred, saying that since she came from a rock band that started off as a garage band, she couldn't ever imagine auditioning for a show of that nature.

Clarkson speculated that she might go for an Aretha Franklin song before saying, "Well, that's kind of a dumb question, I've done this on TV!"

Clarkson sang the Etta James classic "At Last" and Madonna's "Express Yourself" when she auditioned for the first season of American Idol in 2002. She won that season, launching her superstar career. But she told her fellow The Voice coaches that she had wanted to sing Annie Lennox' "Why" for her audition, but "no one would let us sing their songs" that first year. If she had it to do again, that would be her choice, since "it's one of my favorite songs."
