Cameron Hawthorn is celebrating Pride Month in 2019 by releasing a special new version of "Dancing in the Living Room." The country singer-songwriter reworked the song in a stripped-down vocal, piano and acoustic guitar arrangement that is premiering exclusively with Taste of Country.

Hawthorn celebrates a special moment with his boyfriend in the song, singing earnestly about how special it is to just spend romantic time at home.

"We're dancing in the living room / Just me and you / Yeah, there's nowhere else I'd rather be / No fancy night out on the town / But I'll still spin ya 'round / 'Cause I know you saved your dance for me / Yeah, I got you in my arms and I'm right at home / When we're dancing in the living room," he sings in the chorus.

Hawthorn is a very meticulous songwriter who labors over his songs for weeks or even months at a time.

"I tend to obsess over them until they're finished," he tells us. "I sit at the piano or the guitar for hours working through the idea that can sometimes start with a melody or other times a lyric or concept."

That's exactly how "Dancing in the Living Room" began.

"I started with that simple idea and line," Hawthorn recalls. "I remember always thinking how special it was to dance freely with my boyfriend in the living room of our apartment — being gay, it's not as easy to dance as a couple in public together as it is for a straight couple. I wanted to express how special that moment is for a couple, when it's just the two of you in the privacy of your own four walls. I picked up my guitar and began to play a chord progression for the verse, and the words just poured out of me like telling a story. I had never sung about love in this way before, and I think when I finished writing 'Dancing in the Living Room,' I knew it was something special."

Released in March, Hawthorn's video for "Dancing in the Living Room" has earned nearly 200,000 views on YouTube, and he's received coverage from mainstream news outlets including People and the Huffington Post. CMT recently named him one of their Five LGBTQ Country and Americana Artists You Need to Know.
