Canaan Smith and Wife Expecting First Baby, But They Won’t Learn the Sex Until Birth
Canaan Smith and his wife Christy will soon become parents, but don't expect a cute gender reveal video — they won't know if they're getting a son or a daughter until the delivery room.
"We love surprises and we are waiting to find out [the sex] in the delivery room,” the "Love You Like That" hitmaker tells People in an announcement on Friday (Sept. 27).
Smith also shared how Christy unveiled the big news to him after holding onto it for awhile. It started at Home Depot, where an employee pitched the couple on doing an in-home consultation to test their water filter.
“You know how some people are too nice to say no? That’s my wife 100 percent," Smith explains, adding that he was reluctant about the situation but could sense that something was weighing on Christy's mind. After the consultation was over, Christy asked her husband if he remembered her telling him about dreams she was having of being pregnant. At first perplexed, Smith finally figured out what her question really meant.
"And before I could even ask why, it hit me!” he continues. “I don’t know which was better — the news or the happiness on her face. Mine too. That was the best and most meaningful moment of my life.”
Doing what he does best, Smith celebrated the exciting news with a song. He wrote "Life Ain't Fair" alongside Florida Georgia Line's Tyler Hubbard and hit songwriter and producer Corey Crowder — a song that accepts the fact that things don't always fall into place in life. But he views that from a positive perspective, as he likely wouldn't be with the woman he loves if they did.
"Guy like me / Girl like you / I thank God life's not fair," he sings in the chorus.
Smith broke onto the country scene in 2014 with his No. 1 hit "Love You Like That." He recently signed to FGL's new label, Round Here Records, writing his new song "Beer Drinkin' Weather" alongside the duo and Crowder.
Baby Smith's due date has not been revealed.
