Today we feature an artist born and raised in Mesquite, TX, who came to the attention of the music world as the winner of season 7 of The Voice. He found his interest in music early, learning as many instruments as he could as a child, and even became the director of his church's youth choir.

One thing led to Craig Wayne Boyd's big break ~~~ persistence. Boyd had moved from his home in Mesquite, TX to Nashville in 2004, signing a publishing contract with EMI, and worked his way up to opening for several mainstream country acts, including Jamey Johnson, Randy Houser and Brantley Gilbert. Then in 2014 he auditioned for the seventh season of The Voice, and turned the chairs of coaches Pharrell Williams and Blake Shelton, deciding to go with Shelton as his mentor.

Boyd lasted just one round with Shelton, being eliminated in the Battle Round by James David Carter. But Boyd was saved by coach Gwen Stefani and he joined Team Gwen, but it was also for just one round as he was again eliminated, this time by Anita Antoinette in the Knockout Rounds. But fate once again and Boyd was offered the chance to rejoin Team Blake, when Shelton "stole" Boyd after his elimination. Boyd would rejoin his original team and remain a dark horse through out the rest of the competition, consistently landing in the bottom three, singing himself back for another week.

Boyd made it to the finals against Matt McAndrew, Chris Jamison and Damien. Boyd defeated the trio, all coached by Adam Levine, in the final vote count to take The Voice title. He would soon sign with Dot Records, a division of Universal Republic Records, releasing his debut single "My Baby's Got A Smile On Her Face" from the season 7 compilation album. The song was originally supposed to be recorded by Shelton, who gave it to Boyd to celebrate his success on the show. On January 3 of 2015 it became the second song to debut at #1 on the Billboard Country Singles chart. The following week it dropped completely off the charts making it the shortest run by a #1 single in country music history.

While he would release two more singles for Dot, neither would chart and no album would come out of the relationship with the label. The two parties went their separate ways in 2015, when Boyd asked out of his contract. He has
