It's Wednesday, and things are relatively back to normal after the long holiday weekend, and we turn our focus to a duo who met at a party at Nashville and made plans to meet the next day to compare notes and start writing together. Things worked out well, as the first song they wrote together was later put on hold by Rascal Flatts, with whom they have worked with on several songs since.

Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney came to Nashville from completely different backgrounds and areas of the country. Smyers was born and raised in Wexford, PA and attended Carnegie Mellon University, where he studied finance and played football. Shay Mooney on the other hand was born and raised in Natural Dam, Arkansas, attending Valley Forge Christian College for a year, before heading to Nashville. Before the founding of Dan + Shay, Mooney performed as a solo act, while Smyers was a member of the groups Bonaventure and Transition.

Mooney & Smyers met in December of 2012, and within 2 months were signed by Warner/Chappell Music Publishing. They also signed a recording contract with Warner Bros. Nashville later in the year, releasing their debut single "19 You + Me", in October of 2013, which would peak at #7 and serve as the lead single for the duo's debut album Where It All Began, which was released April 1, 2014 and featured two more top-20 hits, including the pairs first #1, "Nothin' Like You".
