We head to the Lone Star State today and turn our focus to a band that was formed while its original members were attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. The band's leader and name sake walked away from his masters degree just a thesis away to pursue his musical dream and has not looked back.

The members of the Josh Abbott Band were members of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity at Texas Tech when they recorded a demo called "Taste" in 2007. In 2008 Josh Abbott, Austin Davis, Neel Huey and Drew Hurt took the band on the road, leaving school to travel Texas supporting their musical dream. Huey & Hurt soon dropped out of the band and were replaced by Preston Wait and Eddie Villanueva in 2009, with James Hertless and Caleb Keeter joining in 2010.

The band released its first album Scapegoat, in 2009 on the Texas indy label Pretty Damn Tough Records. They followed it a year later with She's Like Texas, the first of their albums to land on the Billboard Country Albums chart. It would also feature the first of the group's singles to make it the Billboard Country Singles chart, "Oh, Tonight", which they recorded with Kacey Musgraves would peak at #44.

The group has released two more albums for PDT Records, 2012's Small Town Family Dream, which peaked at #5 and 2015's Front Row Seat, which peaked at #9 on the Country Albums chart, but did top the Indie Albums chart, the groups first #1 album. Both albums featured two top-50 singles.
