‘Catch of the Day’ – The Cadillac Three [AUDIO]
Today's catch of the day comes from a trio of musicians that have played and written together for years under different incarnations and whose unique sound came completely by accident.
Jaren Johnston, Kelby Ray and Neil Mason first came together with Ben Brown as American Bang in 2008. But Johnston, Ray & Mason, who parted ways with Brown in 2012, have a musical co-conspiracy which dates back even further than that, as the trio have been friends since they were kids.
After leaving American Bang, they signed with Big Machine Records as first Cadillac Black in 2013, then changing it to The Cadillac Three before releasing their debut album later that year.
The groups unique sound and configuration came to be completely by accident, as they had completed their debut album without a bass player, and while they were preparing to play their first show ever, as an opening act for ZZ Top, they decided to go with what got them there and make it work as a trio.
As a group, or as individuals, The Cadillac Three have written songs for Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Sara Evans, Jake Owen and others, produced Dierks Bentley's EP Country & Cold Cans and have written for TV shows like Nashville and The Vampire Diaries.
Their first single "The South", featured guest appearances from Florida-Georgia Line, Dierks Bentley and members of the Eli Young Band. The song reached #32 on the Country chart in 2013, followed by "Party Like You" which reached #48.
The trio recently released the third single off of their self-titled debut album, which is in our spotlight today. A throwback tribute to classic country, The Cadillac Three and "White Lightning" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again!
