Today we feature an artist who is a second generation songwriter who originally attended Middle Tennessee State University on a baseball scholarship, but a shoulder injury sent him back to his first love, music.

Tucker Beathard has been around Nashville literally his whole life, the son of songwriter Casey Beathard, who has written hits for Kenny Chesney ("No Shirt, No Shoes No Problem" and "The Boys of Fall"), Trace Adkins ("Hot Mama" and "Just Fishin'"), Eric Church ("Like Jesus Does" and others) Tracy Lawrence ("Find Out Who Your Friends Are") and more. The senior Beathard was named BMI Songwriter of the Year in 2004 and 2008. Tucker was a fan of country music as a kid, playing drums in a band that featured Tucker and his brother C.J., but he went against family tradition and accepted a baseball scholarship to Middle Tennessee State University (brother C.J. is

University and grandfather Bobby Beathard was the General Manager of the San Diego Chargers and 3 other NFL teams).

After a shoulder injury ended Tucker's major league dreams, he turned his unrelenting competitive spirit to country music. On his website it says that he wakes up every day with the intent to write "the perfect song". A self-taught guitarist and drummer, Tucker says he is never "good enough" and strives to improve his musicianship every day. Tucker also takes pride in his live performances, having opened for artists like Dierks Bentley, Keith Urban and Miranda Lambert, he feels he opens up to, and builds a rapport with audiences every time he takes the stage.

Signed by Dot Records, a subsidiary of the Big Machine Record Group, in late 2015, Tucker released his debut single, "Rock On" in March of this year. The song, which Beathard co-wrote with his father, peaked at #2 on the country charts and served as the lead single from his debut EP Fight Like Hell. The second single from the EP, a raucous anthem of mispent youth, is in our spotlight today. Tucker Beathard and "Momma and Jesus" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll wanna hear it again.
