I got to visit the home several years ago with a group that I was part of, and if you know me at all you know that I love antiques and history, and believe me this home is overflowing with both. Every room is appointed with treasures from years past, and it is literally like you walked back in time when you walk through those front doors. I wish I still had some of the pictures that I took. I guess I'll just have to go back!
Operating hours for tours are Thursday - Sunday from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm, and prices vary. Adults are $4, Students, are $2, Senior Citizens and Groups of 10 or more, are $3, and Lawton Heritage Association Members and Military Personnel in Uniform are FREE of charge.
This 14 room home was built between 1907-1909, and was home to Mattie and her husband Charles Payne until her death in 1931. Mattie registered for the land lottery and her name was drawn second in the Lawton Land District, giving her a claim to 160 acres.
After Mattie's death, her husband and 3 daughters occupied the house until 1947 when due to the economy in the 30's he was forced to sell the home.
The Mattie Beal home is listed in the National Register of Historic places. This is one place in Lawton that you need to see. And the prices are right!
