Chickasha Community Theatre Opens ‘9 To 5′ Musical Days After Dolly Parton’s Passing

When Chickasha Community Theatre announced its 2026 January, it would've been impossible to plan for the theatre's production of "9 To 5: The Musical" to open the week of Dolly Parton's death. But as fate would have it, the theatre's production will host opening night on Thursday, August 27, just two days after Parton's passing.

Chickasha Community Theatre's production of "9 To 5: The Musical" is the fourth production of the theatre's 2026 season. And as if Parton's spirit had a hand in picking this year's season, the theatre's fifth production is set to be "Steel Magnolias."

Chickasha Community Theatre will host performances of '9 To 5: The Musical' August 27-30.

Fans of Parton have been listening to her music or watching her movies on repeat since her passing on Tuesday, August 25. Fans in southwest Oklahoma can also honor Parton by seeing a live production of "9 To 5: The Musical," which features music and lyrics by Parton.

Chickasha Community Theatre will perform "9 To 5: The Musical" at 7:30 p.m. August 27 and 28, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 30. All performances will take place at the Washita Theatre, located at 509 Chickasha Ave.

In a Facebook post on the theatre's official page, the theatre stated that the cast hopes to honor Parton's legacy with their production of "9 To 5: The Musical."

Chickasha Community Theatre's 2026 season also features 'Steel Magnolias.'

Following the production of "9 To 5: The Musical," Chickasha Community Theatre will also produce "Steel Magnolias." The play "Steel Magnolias" was the basis for the 1989 film starring Parton as Truvy.
