A recent fatal accident on Rogers Lane in Lawton has brought to the forefront the need to install barriers along the high traffic road. On Tuesday, the Lawton City Council will vote on asking the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to pay for barriers to be installed, seperating the east and west bound lanes of the section of Rogers Lane that is part of State Highway 62.

This vote comes barely a month after a deadly accident on that road near 26th Street. In that tragic accident, a driver was killed when the vehicle was struck by another driver, who had somehow crossed the median into oncoming traffic, igniting of a 6-car pile-up. Lawton City Council members are hoping to stop incidents like this one in the future, by installing center median barriers that will stretch from 82nd street to the I-44 on ramps.

Tuesday's city council agenda calls for a vote on whether the council should ask ODOT to be the source of the funding for this type of project.
