The Emergency Center project consists of over 28,000 square feet of new construction, and over 11,000 square feet of renovations to the existing Emergency Department, bringing the new center to over 40,000 square feet of usable space when completed. An additional 3,700 square feet of space has been earmarked for future expansion. The new construction is scheduled to be completed in June, with renovation of the existing space slated for the end of this year.

The new center will increase the number of treatment rooms to 38, which will include 2 triage rooms, 13 minor care treatment rooms and 23 emergency care treatment rooms. The emergency care rooms will include 10 general emergency treatment rooms, 5 level 3 trauma rooms, 4 isolation treatment rooms, 2 behavioral health treatment rooms and 2 OB/GYN exam/treatment rooms. There will also be onsite dedicated advanced diagnostic imaging, a rooftop heliport landing pad, a work room for EMT and police, a family counseling room and a patient viewing room.

The undisclosed, generous donation was a group decision by the Drewry family; Dr. Robert H. Drewry and wife Karen of Corpus Christie, TX, William T. Drewry and wife Stephanie of Lawton and Susie and husband Frank Battaglia of Corpus Christi, TX in the name of their parents, Jimmie and R,H, Drewry of Lawton. The center will be named the Drewry Family Emergency Center.
